Programa Regional do Centro 2021-2027

The Centro Regional Programme 2021-2027 aims to foster integrated and inclusive social, economic, and environmental development across local communities in the Centro region of Portugal.

A significant aspect of the programme is its commitment to cultural and heritage promotion. It supports initiatives that enhance the infrastructure and conservation of historical and cultural sites, ensuring their protection and modernization. By investing in museums and cultural facilities, the programme aims to create vibrant spaces that foster creativity and community engagement, ultimately contributing to the region’s cultural dynamism.

Moreover, the programme emphasises the integration of culture with tourism, encouraging the development of sustainable tourism models that leverage local heritage. This approach aims to increase the average length of stay for visitors while reducing seasonal dependency, thereby enhancing the economic viability of cultural sites. Additionally, the programme promotes the creation of thematic routes and events that celebrate the region’s cultural assets, including UNESCO sites, thereby fostering a deeper appreciation of local heritage among both residents and visitors.

This Programme is part of a broader constellation of policies developed for regions, part of the programme Portugal 2030. The plan has not been specifically designed with the aim to devolve policies for culture and give more responsibility to the regions, however, it makes relevant references and thus has been included in this library collection for reasons of completeness.
