The Madeira Regional Programme 2021-2027 aims to enhance regional development through strategic investments in infrastructure, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. I
A significant aspect of the programme is its emphasis on culture and heritage as vital components of regional identity and economic development. The initiative promotes the protection, development, and promotion of cultural assets, including museums and religious spaces with historical significance. By enhancing the conditions for physical and virtual access to cultural sites, the programme aims to increase public engagement and appreciation of the region’s rich heritage.
Furthermore, the programme supports the construction of new cultural facilities, such as the Concert Hall in Funchal, which will provide diverse cultural offerings and foster artistic creation. It also encourages the development of thematic routes and events that highlight the region’s cultural and historical assets, thereby attracting sustainable tourism. By integrating cultural initiatives with broader economic strategies, the programme seeks to reinforce the role of culture in driving social inclusion and innovation, ultimately contributing to the revitalization of the region’s cultural landscape and its economic resilience.
This Programme is part of a broader constellation of policies developed for regions, part of the programme Portugal 2030. The plan has not been specifically designed with the aim to devolve policies for culture and give more responsibility to the regions, however, it makes relevant references and thus has been included in this library collection for reasons of completeness.
