Percepciones del residente local sobre el turismo industrial como una modalidad de desarrollo sostenible

The text explores the emerging field of industrial tourism, which capitalizes on both historical and contemporary industrial sites, particularly in Spain. It emphasises the importance of integrating tourism into disused industrial areas to immerse visitors in the activities and processes of these spaces. Sustainable management of tourism resources, especially industrial ones, is highlighted as essential for promoting economic and social development while respecting the environment.

The paper aims to analyse local residents’ perceptions of industrial tourism as a sustainable tourism model within the framework of the Theory of Sustainable Development or Triple Bottom Line. This theory examines sustainability across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. By focusing on the province of Cadiz in Andalusia, Spain, the research seeks to assess residents’ attitudes towards the industrial heritage of the region and its potential for sustainable tourism development.

Through empirical research, the study aims to fill gaps in existing literature by providing insights into whether industrial heritage tourism is practised sustainably from the perspective of local residents. It seeks to understand their perceptions of the tourist offerings related to industrial heritage and their role in managing local resources. This new contribution to tourism research holds significance in advancing understanding and practice in the field of sustainable tourism management.

Overall, the paper provides a framework for evaluating the sustainability of industrial heritage tourism initiatives, with a focus on the perceptions and attitudes of local residents in the Cadiz province. By shedding light on residents’ views, the research aims to inform future tourism strategies and enhance community engagement in sustainable tourism development.
