The dissertation explores the integration of digital technologies, such as Actionbound and Google Earth, in history education to enhance student engagement and learning, particularly focusing on local heritage.

Conducted with 7th-grade students, the study aimed to understand how digital trails can impact student involvement in historical tasks both inside and outside the classroom. Through interviews with students, it was observed that the use of digital tools emotionally, behaviorally, and cognitively engaged students in learning about local, national, and global heritage.

The research highlights the importance of incorporating technology in education to stimulate student interest in exploring historical sources, especially local heritage sites. By actively involving students in learning through digital tools, the study suggests a positive impact on academic performance and overall well-being, emphasizing the significance of preserving and promoting local heritage.

The dissertation concludes with recommendations for future research and highlights the significance of integrating innovative technological approaches in history education to make learning more interactive and engaging for students.
