Law “On RA State Awards and Honorary Titles”

The law of the Republic of Armenia concerning state awards and honorary titles establishes a framework for recognizing exceptional contributions across various fields. Enacted to honor individuals and entities for their significant achievements, the law outlines the types of awards and titles available, the procedures for their establishment, and the rules governing their bestowal.

According to the law, state awards are considered the highest form of recognition in Armenia and are bestowed for contributions to state construction, economy, science, education, culture, art, healthcare, sports development, national security, charitable activities, and other outstanding services. These awards primarily consist of orders and medals. Orders such as the Order of the Fatherland, Order of Glory, and Order of Friendship signify different forms of merit and service.

Medals, on the other hand, recognize specific acts or accomplishments, such as valor, services to the motherland, and contributions to public order.

Honorary titles under this law are conferred for exceptional achievements in fields including science, education, art, culture, health, economy, architecture, construction, law, journalism, and sports. Notable honorary titles include People’s Artist, Honored Worker of Science, Honored Architect, and Honored Doctor of the Republic of Armenia, among others. These titles recognize sustained excellence and significant contributions to their respective disciplines.

The law also specifies the authorities responsible for proposing candidates for state awards and honorary titles. These include the Prime Minister, Presidents of the National Assembly and Constitutional Court, and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, each having the right to recommend individuals or entities based on their areas of expertise or jurisdiction.

In summary, the law on state awards and honorary titles in Armenia serves to formalize and celebrate exceptional achievements across various sectors, promoting national pride and recognition of outstanding service and talent within Armenian society.
