The recent reimagining of cultural heritage as a tool for sustainable development underscores the necessity for implementing tools capable of measuring, both qualitatively and quantitatively, various aspects of heritage asset and element management within a territory. This work aims to develop a tool that, through Geographic Information Systems applications, aids in identifying cultural heritage as a developmental resource within the context of territorial balance.
The primary objective is to demonstrate that enhanced accessibility, encompassing all forms outlined in the methodological design, leads to greater contributions of cultural assets to the sustainable development of rural areas. By utilising Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology, this tool offers a systematic approach to mapping and analysing cultural heritage assets in relation to their potential impact on local development.
Through this approach, stakeholders can gain valuable insights into the spatial distribution and accessibility of cultural heritage assets, facilitating informed decision-making processes aimed at promoting balanced territorial development. Moreover, by incorporating qualitative and quantitative measures, the tool provides a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted contributions of cultural heritage to sustainable development.
Ultimately, by leveraging Geographic Information Systems applications, this tool not only enhances our ability to identify and assess cultural heritage assets but also empowers stakeholders to harness their potential as drivers of sustainable development in rural areas. By recognising the intrinsic value of cultural heritage in promoting territorial balance and fostering socio-economic growth, this approach paves the way for more effective and inclusive development strategies tailored to the unique needs and aspirations of local communities.
