How can heritage skills unlock the full potential of European regions?

The inaugural webinar of the CHARTER Alliance series, organised in partnership with ENCATC and ERRIN, provided an in-depth exploration of regional efforts to enhance cultural heritage through education and training. This event, part of ENCATC’s Members Talks cycle, highlighted how various regions address cultural heritage skills challenges and share successful practices.

The webinar focused on insights from a final report, which includes a detailed analysis of six regional case studies. These regions—Basque Country (Spain), Sibiu (Romania), Bremen (Germany), Alentejo (Portugal), Tuscany (Italy), and Västra Götaland (Sweden)—have collaborated with CHARTER Alliance over the past three years to advance their cultural heritage ecosystems.

Throughout this period, six regional workshops were held to collect feedback on education and training schemes, identify skills gaps, and understand sector dynamics. The case studies presented in the webinar illustrated diverse approaches to addressing current issues such as sustainability, digitalisation, and the circular economy. They also examined challenges related to aligning education and training with labour market needs and the certification of traditional skills.

The webinar offered valuable insights into a wide range of topics, including crafts, industrial and maritime heritage, and digitalisation. It also facilitated discussions on developing a future Cultural Heritage Skills Strategy, contributing to a broader European framework for preserving and innovating cultural heritage.
