Estudo de Públicos de Museus Nacionais – Públicos do Museu Nacional de Arqueologia

This report is part of a study that produces up-to-date and reliable information on audiences for DGPC museums, including social profiles and cultural practices, the relationship with museums, expectations, evaluations and suggestions arising from the visit. It aims to promote knowledge and the search for new responses to the challenges that audiences are posing to many museum institutions as a result of the strong impact of tourism. This is a pioneering study in Portugal from several points of view: the number of participating museums, the comparative perspective adopted and the duration of the observation (12 months).

This particular document pertains to the National Museum of Archeology and highlights the importance of engaging with visitors to enhance their museum experience. The study methodology involves qualitative data analysis using computer-assisted techniques, focusing on phases like data preparation, immersion, coding, categorization, and interpretation. Demographic data on visitors, including nationality, age, and gender, are crucial for understanding visitor profiles and preferences.

Visitors, especially those who frequently visit museums, contribute significantly with opinions and recommendations. They emphasise the importance of clear and multilingual support texts, suggesting improvements in language richness and conciseness. They also recommend that the museum provide audio guides, brochures, and multimedia aids to improve understanding and engagement with museum exhibits. Additionally, respondents propose better promotion of the museum in tourist guides to attract more visitors.

Overall, the study underscores the significance of visitor feedback in shaping museum experiences and highlights the need for continuous improvement and innovation in museum practices.
