Regional Development Plans are strategic plans that define the goals and priorities for the economic, social, and environmental development of the country’s regions. They include a coherent package of critical projects: completed, ongoing, and under planning. They are structured around four pillars, with projects and interventions aimed at upgrading Networks and Infrastructure, supporting the Primary Sector and the Green Transition, improving the Quality of Life for all residents, and fostering Investment and Value in each region. They provide a detailed breakdown of the projects and actions in each Region (analyzed at the Regional Unit level), offering a concise description and budget.
These strategies provide detailed description of the projects and actions in each Region (with a breakdown at the level of the Regional Unit), for which a summary description and budget is provided. They are an account of the government’s work per region and a detailed information tool for local communities and citizens as a whole. At the same time, the detailed recording and monitoring that takes place during the preparation of the Plans allows for on-the-spot intervention to resolve issues relating to projects or actions. Through the publicity of the Plans, transparency and accountability, healthy competition and respect for the citizens are enhanced, contributing to improving the quality of democracy.
Τhe frameworks’ visions aim over a period of a decade, thus they are being renewed every 10 years. Currently, the aspirations of each Plan reach up to 2030. The regions with a verified Regional Development Plan are the following: Western Macedonia, Crete, Patras, Thessaloniki, Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Central Greece, Epirus, the Ionian Islands, Thessaly, Peloponnese, Southern Aegean, Northern Aegean and Central Macedonia.
