Prague Manifesto: For a Value-based and Culture-driven Europe

This manifesto strongly urges leaders at all levels of European governance and heritage actors to fully recognise and harness the immense potential of cultural heritage. The Prague Manifesto proposes seven actionable initiatives for culture and heritage to contribute significantly to building a value-based and culture-driven Europe.

It underscores the critical need to invest in training and employing the next generation of heritage professionals and custodians. Additionally, it highlights the intrinsic relationship between promoting culture, protecting cultural heritage, and addressing the environmental challenges posed by climate change.

Moreover, the manifesto stresses designating culture and cultural heritage as strategic assets to foster value and equality-based cultural diplomacy and international cooperation. It champions their significant contribution towards making Europe a green, climate-neutral continent and advocates for a dedicated Cultural Goal within the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Addressing serious threats to peace and democracy, the Prague Manifesto emphasises the need for Europe to defend and enhance its fundamental values. It firmly believes that culture and shared cultural heritage play a crucial role in fostering peace, solidarity, shaping a shared identity, and achieving a more sustainable and inclusive society.
