Leggi regionali 1994, 13 – Tutela del patrimonio storico, sociale e culturale delle società di mutuo soccorso (Regional laws 1994 13 – Protection of the historical, social and cultural heritage of mutual aid societies)

The Regional Law No. 13 of 1994 of Liguria aims to safeguard the historical, social, and cultural heritage of mutual aid societies operating in the region. These societies, functioning without profit motives, are recognized for their role in fostering solidarity and social progress. The law provides financial support and institutional mechanisms to preserve and promote their contributions.

To achieve these goals, the law establishes a regional registry for mutual aid societies active for at least two years, ensuring accountability and inclusion in development programs. It also introduces a Center for Studies and Documentation to document and preserve historical materials related to these societies, including archives, artifacts, and imagery. This center also organizes public initiatives, such as exhibitions and scholarships, to promote academic research on the historical and social origins of mutual aid societies.

The law permits the regional government to provide financial contributions for structural renovations, maintenance, and the restoration of historical assets owned or used by these societies. These grants are subject to budgetary limits and specific eligibility criteria, including long-term lease agreements for privately owned properties.

By establishing clear guidelines for accessing support, the law ensures efficient resource allocation. It reinforces Liguria’s commitment to preserving the cultural significance of mutual aid societies while promoting their continued relevance in social welfare and community development.
