On 18 April, the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Lisbon, Portugal, was established by Europa Nostra, Centro Nacional de Cultura and the Municipality of Lisbon.
The Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Lisbon was signed during the event held at the Lisbon City Hall by Maria Calado, President of the Centro Nacional de Cultura, and Diogo Moura, Councillor for Culture at Municipality of Lisbon.
Lisbon’s selection as the location for this Hub is strategic, reflecting its status as one of Europe’s oldest multicultural cities, celebrated for its rich and diverse cultural heritage.
In an online address, Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra and Project Leader of the European Heritage Hub, highlighted that this further expansion of the Europa Nostra network underscores the organisation’s dedication to protecting and celebrating Europe’s diverse cultural heritage. She also emphasised that the Lisbon Hub will actively contribute to the implementation of the aims and activities of the European Heritage Hub project.
The new Heritage Hub in Lisbon joins the already established ones in Krakow (Poland) and Athens (Greece), with a third in progress in Nicosia (Cyprus). These regional Hubs play an instrumental role in supporting the work of the European Heritage Hub in advancing the triple transformation goals – green, digital and social.
Moreover, the presence of the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub will bolster Lisbon’s role in the area of international cultural heritage, fostering stronger synergies among public, local and non-governmental sectors, as well as civil society, for the management, promotion, and preservation of cultural heritage.
The Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Lisbon will be operational for a period of three years, with the possibility of extension.
