This volume includes extensive research on the architectural heritage of the modern movement of the 1930s, in Athens.
The book includes material recording residential buildings of the Modern movement in the Municipality of Athens and represents a part of the characteristic examples of the recent architectural heritage of the capital, which was formed before the Second World War, during the 1930s. In addition to the wealth of information provided to the reader through the coherent photographic archive, the book is also a guide to visiting the important examples of the influence of modern movement in Athens. The catalogue of Athenian modern houses that are presented promote an aspect of Greek architecture, which is largely unknown to the public.
The material was recorded in data sheets – documentation cards – with complete information about each house, architectural and typological characteristics and details, information about the field research on the time of construction or the architect. The buildings recorded belong to 7 Μunicipal Districts. The total number of registered buildings per Municipal District was recorded in summary tables with a serial number, which refers to the corresponding map of each Municipal District.
