This resource is a catalogue presenting a variety of good practices, showcasing successful initiatives and projects from across Europe. The catalogue is part of a broader project, Culture for Cities and Regions, which examined existing practices of culture as a key element in local and regional development strategies.
The main dimensions explored in the catalogue are; culture and the creative industries for local economic development and urban regeneration; cultural heritage as a driver for economic growth and social inclusion; and culture for social inclusion, social innovation and intercultural dialogue. While these are classified into three main categories, many of the examples overlap across different dimensions.
The practices cover a variety of different types of local and regional authorities; regions, large cities, small cities and medium-sized cities. This includes low-population density regions, very small cities, and initiatives connecting rural areas.
The purpose of the catalogue is to foster the exchange of information and promote peer to peer learning. Each of the 71 practices features information on the context, budget and financing, impact, transferability, sustainability and management of the initiative.
